Snow Much Fun – Grab it before the deal melts away!

Well okay…we haven’t actually had much in the way of snow here just yet but with the deals on snow related items in the Online Extravaganza I’m playing with snow and snowmen anyway!   Two days left before the deals melt away and don’t forget that Wednesday, the last day of the sale will be sporting 3 new super deals just like last week when the sale started.   This time the focus will be on Clear Mount Blocks, The Clear Mount Block Storage Caddy and the wonderful Stack and Store Caddy.   I have to say that last in particular helps me stay organized and lets me see what I have to craft with.

Here’s the first card with new product I designed when the new catalog came out last June.  Yeah  I know…weird to play with snowmen in June but when I saw the new dies…I had a vision. was hot and playing with snowmen cooled things off…at least in my head.  😀   How cool is it that two of the items used are now on sale?  Very Cool!

All images and dies copyright Stampin’ Up!

This was also a team effort.  Several demonstrators from my local group got together to pool our new toys tools and create for our joint open house.  This was my design but colored beautifully by my upline Cheryl (thanks sweetie!).   Kept it pretty simple as we were looking to show off  new dies, new colors and new embellishments.   I had die cut a piece in my Real Red DSP with the new Apothecary Accents Framelit for another project and set the remaining window negative down on a scrap of Whisper White and realized the windowing possibilities.   Just needed something short and squat to fill it.   And wouldn’t you know I had just been playing with the Snow Much Fun set and my eye landed on the little chubby snowman…and an idea was born!

Played with the idea of snowballs for throwing but decided to showcase another new die cut instead to carry the greeting.   Turns out that Bitty Banners Framelit die cuts can hold more texts from more stamps than the set designed to coordinate with it.   And being a flower child from way back just had to throw in flowers for ammunition instead of snowballs.    Do you recognize that itty bitty tiny flower?  It’s the flower on the hello stamp in Tiny Tags.  I just inked with a marker and stamped three times for my tiny pointsettia wanna be’s.

Here’s the recipe for the card:

Stamps: Snow Much Fun, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Tiny Tags (the little flower from hello)

Ink: Black Stazon, Real Red and Gumball Green Classic Inks  – sorry I can’t remember what we used for the nose

Paper: Gumball Green & Whisper White Cardstock, Real Red Designer Series Paper from the Brights Collection Patterns Stack

Other: Gumball Green Stitched Satin Ribbon, Big Shot, Bitty Banners Framelits, ApothecaryAccents Framelits, Large Oval Punch, Glue dots, Dimensionals and Snail adhesive.

Don’t you want to reach through the monitor and stroke that satiny ribbon?   I can’t get enough of that stuff and now that it’s 30% off it’s even harder to resist.  And even better…the stamp set is 50% off!  Wowza!  $9.98 (in clear mount) and you can have your very own set of snowmen to play with!  Should mention that the Designer Series Paper is also part of the Brights Designer Series Paper Stack that’s 20% off.  With Christmas and Valentines coming up you really want to jump on that collection (you might want to buy it too!).

I should probably also mention that the Come to Bethlehem set I used in this recent post is also 50% off!   So why are you still sitting there…time to hit the sale entries in my Online Store (click the Shopping icon in my sidebar to get started).

In case you haven’t seen it yet here’s the flyer listing all the deals:

New Product Feature: Shimmer Paint

ETA:  Happy Veterans Day to you all my friends.  Especially in light of the recent tragedy at Ft. Hood and the increasing violence overseas as well please keep all our service men and women and their families in your prayers.  My thanks to all who serve and all who have served our nation and all her people.   And Birthday Greetings to my friend Karen G. who is one of the reasons I always know what date Veteran’s Day falls on.   While she’s never been in the military she is a veteran of many battles that have only increased my admiration for her faith and loving heart.  Hugs and special wishes my friend! – J.

Hi All,

There have been so many questions floating around about many new products featured in the new Holiday mini that I thought I would start a new occasional post series featuring a single new product.   This posts featured product is the new Shimmer Paint.   As the online catalog says: Stampin’ Up’s new Shimmer Paint adds a vibrant dimension that enhances the look of anything without actually changing its basic appearance.  Not a bad description.  Doesn’t however tell us a whole lot about how to use it.  Today we’ll fix that.

Lots of talented demonstrators and stampers across the web have come up with quite a few interesting uses and techniques for using this new product and have created tutorials, video’s and other aids to understanding.  So today I’ll provide you a one stop shop for many of these as well as links to inspiring projects using these methods of use.

 Shimmer Paint Product image

Nontoxic, .5 oz. bottles

 #116806             Champagne Mist           $5.95

#116854              Frost White                 $5.95

#116807              Platinum                       $5.95

Here’s what Stampin’ Up’s own demonstrator product guide has to say about this new product:

■ Pigment ink with a touch of shimmer

■ Available in 3 colors: Champagne Mist, Frost White, and Platinum

■ Champagne Mist and Frost White are translucent—wash them over your project and you’ll get a delicate layer of shine that’s more understated than glitter

■ Platinum is opaque—it will cover your surface completely, so you’ll want to use it as an accent color instead of using it to cover your project

■ Apply it with a sponge or sponge dauber directly to a stamp or paper

■ .5 oz. each

■ Nontoxic

“Shimmer paint is pigment ink, so you can do almost anything with it that you can do with ink—you can stamp with it, cover an entire section of card stock or paper with it, or apply it over a stamped image or Rub-On. It works on a variety of surfaces: paper, fabric, wood (such as our Texture Cuts wood sheets), leather, and more.”

To stamp with shimmer paint, apply a thin layer of paint to the stamp using a sponge dauber or stamping sponge and then stamp as usual (don’t overload the dauber or the paint will seep into the recessed areas of the stamp). Because Champagne Mist and Frost White are translucent, images you stamp with them will be very light. Images stamped with Platinum shimmer paint will be more dramatic.

Shimmer paint dries quickly; you don’t need to heat set it on paper or most materials.   Except….

You can use shimmer paint on natural fiber fabrics, such as cotton, wool, silk, etc., but you must heat set it to make it permanent. To heat set the paint, iron the fabric with the iron set at the appropriate temperature for the fabric. Once the paint is heat set, the shimmer paint will not wash off or smear.

A few more notes I’ve picked up here and there:

Demo Support has told me that Shimmer Paint can be used in much the same way as the Liquified Pearl EX  that SU sold in the past.

Sharon Field on her blog Created by U has posted a formula to create your own version of Glimmer Mist using Shimmer Paint as a base ingredient….

Her formula:  1.5 tsp rubbing alcohol in a mini mister bottle… dip the ‘straw’ of your mister into the shimmer paint, scrape on sides of mister bottle (inside.. duh).. 5 times. Replace top, shake vigorously and spray onto porous surface.. cardstock, ribbon, etc.. will not wipe off, PHENOMENAL finish.

A fellow demo the other day had this fun insight into why this product is turning out to be so popular.  She said:

“I think all stampers are magpies at heart and shimmer, glitter and bling usually sells.”

Sounds right to me – LoL! 😀

Here’s a few projects from a recent Stamp a Stack of my own that used the Shimmer Paint

For more details on them see this previous post –

Hopefully this has been a useful product review.  If you have other product you would like information on drop me a line or leave a comment.  And as always if you would like to add Stampin’ Up product to your own craft room I’d be happy to place an order for you.  You can also order online using the links in the sidebar and I would be honored if you would select me as your demonstrator.   Of course I’m always looking for a few good stampers to join me in selling Stampin’ Up!   Nothing better than getting your own stamping supplies for less…right?

See you next time and thanks for stopping by my corner of the blogosphere…

Hugs and Blessings – Jean

note: Since writing this post I’ve discovered that SU has this product on backorder for a few more days.  However since there is no guarantee that this product will outlive the Holiday Mini which ends on January 4, 2010 you may want to place an order and stock up regardless of backorder status.  Trust me you’ll want this product all year round!  After all Dazzling Diamonds and Glitter aren’t used only at Christmas either right?  Please oh please SU put it in the main offering!!

And for a printable document version of the materials in this post please see my SCRIBD download section.  I’ve placed a more generic version there in both PDF and Word formats for the use of other demo’s (you can edit to add your own info) or interested customers and fellow stampers.  Enjoy!
