Using up the leftovers

I don’t know about you…but I love leftovers.  Especially the kind you can eat.  Makes cooking a meal so much easier.   Many are even good cold.  Nice for these hot days of summer.

Same deal when it comes to papercrafting.  When you have scraps and other leftovers sitting around and taking up space….it’s time to use them up!

If you remember this card from the recent Wacky Watercooler July Hop:

Watercolor Wings Catalog Case - Marker Wash Technique - Jean Fitch

You might be wondering what I did with the leftovers.   After all…since the Fluttering embossing folder is 6″ x 6″ there have to be leftovers right?

Here you go:

Marker Watercolor Wash Bookmark - Jean Fitch

A quick and simple bookmark/tag with the 2″ leftover piece.   I trimmed it down just a slight bit and cut out a backing piece of Blackberry Bliss that was just 1/4″ wider.  Ran them both one at a time through the Ornate punch for a decorative top, fixed up the offset holes with my trusty Crop a Dile and then tied a bit of Sahara Sand Lace for a nice topper.   For a bit of embellishment I added an Itty Bitty punched butterfly with a bit of bling.  Easy Peasy right?  Another option for the punched hole I fed the lace through would be to use one of the hole makers from the Chalk Talk Framelits.  Pity I didn’t have another leftover Fluttering piece to show you that.  Ah well…another day.

And from one book lover to another…while we’re on the subject of bookmarks let me add the following tip.  As pretty as bling is down below…it’s really hard on the books and their pages.  So if you love books…keep your bookmarks as flat as you can and make sure any color you use won’t rub off on the pages.  Save your embellishments for the top portion that can sit above the spine or the pages.

There you have it one more project that used up my leftovers from the Marker Watercolor Wash technique.   To find out how the technique works and see the colors in the supply list, check out the link above to the hop post.  It’s very easy and adds color while you emboss your image.

Now if only I had been able to go to the Stampin’ Up 2015 Convention.  This bookmark would have been a fun swap project don’t you think?  Sigh…maybe in November when I’m hoping to go to the more local Onstage Local Event.  See you next time.

Hugs and blessings –
