Will you be my sunshine for one last day?

You Are my Sunshine - Wood grain

(click any of the pictures for a larger view)

I know, strange title isn’t it?   But not if you want to purchase the stamp I used in my project today.   July 31st at midnight this lovely single stamps goes back in the cupboard and likely won’t be seen again.

The title of the post also reflects kind of how I’m feeling about the real sunshine in my mountain valley.

For the last few days we’ve been surrounded by smoke, smoke and more smoke.  The air quality board even rates us today as being unhealthy to breathe outside.  Wow…now that’s something we don’t hear often in my neck of the woods.   Not entirely sure what to do about that either, except stay inside with the windows and doors sealed and hope the air inside holds out.

There are 24 fires burning in Southern Oregon at the moment and a couple of them are within about 30-50 miles and making their presence felt with smoke practically down to the ground.   When you cool your house by opening up in the evenings that’s just not possible, so more than the fire is heating up right about now.   Please God…much as I love the sun (well in moderation – LOL) …could we please have some rain to wash out the fire and clear the smoke.  I think the 1,000 or so firefighters would really appreciate that right about now too.   I’m also thinking 1,000 of these cards would be well received by those crews too.  Anyone want to come stamp a bunch of these?  I’ve got the stamp, ink and dies if you’ve got the paper.   Or you can get the stamp for yourself and let your local fire guys and gals know how much you appreciate their hard work.

Here’s a few more in a variety of colors…including one that’s almost psychadelic as we used to say in the 60’s and will have you seeing dots everywhere.  Some have had their lattice upgraded with the Woodgrain Background stamp.  Can you tell I went for simple by NOT watercoloring most of the text stamps on these cards.  Of course if you want more sunshine you can use a Daffodil Delight Marker to add that extra bit of brightness.

You Are My Sunshine - Turquoise

I hope you’ll pardon the crumples in a couple of the cards.  They got sat on by a Big Shot and no I don’t mean a movie star.   Sad the things that happen to poor defenseless cards at a Stamp Camp isn’t it? 😀

You Are My Sunshine - Pumpkin Pie

Wouldn’t this Pumpkin Pie one be great for the Fall?

You Are My Sunshine - Daffodil Delight

Lots of bright primary colors on this one with the Real Read Polka Dot Designer Series Paper and the Bright Daffodil Delight and Gumball Green.  After making this version I dreamed and saw polka dots everywhere…on everything.

You Are My Sunshine - Pear Pizzazz

Here’s the list of makings and also a link if you want to download the same directions I shared with the Stamp Campers.

Oh and in case you are curious here’s the inside:

You Are my Sunshine - Inside - Crumb Cake and Daffodil Delight

Not sure why my camera added that blotchy dot in the middle of the text but probably a lighting issue.  With the smoke obscuring my natural light I’m having a fun time with picture taking.

For those of you with botanical purists in your vicinity who want to know why you are showing sunflowers in June and July….tell them they are black eyed susans…calms them right down!  Yep…that came up at Stamp Camp.

To see what other Single Stamps are going away at midnight you can download the following:

That’s it for today.   If you love the singles stamps…don’t delay today is the very last day.

Hugs and love – Jean

Welcome to the Hop from Oregon, USA!
We’re featuring products from Stampin’ Up’s 2013-2014 Annual Catalog.

Welcome to this first stop on a new hop.  As you can see a new group is starting a new hop tradition.  Perfect timing too what with a new annual catalog(ue) just released last month.   If you started somewhere in the middle or are moving backwards you’ve arrived from Jeannine Tarrio’s wonderful blog – Jean Stamps.   Nice symmetry don’t you think to begin and end with a Jean?  Jeannine has a wonderful talent for putting together unrelated elements in new ways to create a wonderful project.   I’ve been following her work on our Demonstrator Site Showcase Board for some time now.  I always find inspiration in her pages and am thrilled she elected to join the hop.

The Watercooler I always see in my mind’s eye…..

the original watercooler
Why the (ue) in the title and who are the Wacky Watercooler demonstrators you ask?

We are a creative group of Independent Stampin’ Up Demonstrators who hang out together on our demonstrator website in the Wacky Women’s Watercooler thread. We share stamping, business, life, love, animals and pretty much whatever comes into our heads with a generally wacky slant on most things. Luckily being virtual the watercooler is always open for fun, frivolity and most of all creativity.

The (ue)?

As you can tell from the banner we’re celebrating the recent release of Stampin’ Up’s latest Annual Catalog or for those of you from overseas or Canada…the Annual Catalogue.   Ah…ha….now you get the banner right?   We melded both North American spellings into one form “catalog(ue)”.    Our wacky watercooler crew of demonstrators this hop are from Canada and the United States so you’ll see a few different spellings as you travel the hop.   A common continent but with distinct spelling and language differences.

Follow on hops we hope to add other Watercooler members from around the world.    You’ll want to bookmark  our Home Hop Site…we have a Holiday Catalog(ue) Hop in the works that should launch next month.

Here we go!
Happy Birthday Epic Day Style

Speaking of around the world….the pattern for my first project was inspired by an Australian demo (Hi Tanya!) who posted a wonderful tutorial video that got my creative juices flowing.   One lovely gift box with an inner pouch to hold the gift from one sheet of 12 x 12 Designer Series Paper.   Once you get the technique down you can make one in about 10 minutes (not counting the belly band).  One warning if you want to recreate from the video…Tanya muffed one of the measurements on camera but has them correct further on and in the description for the video.

As you’ll see from all my projects I’ve fallen in love with the This and That Epic Day series of products from our new annual catalog.   I love the shabby chic look of the papers, stickers and Washi Tape that all coordinate with our new This & That Journal.   The edgy colors took me a little bit of time to warm up to but now I’m hooked – the style got me right away. LOL.    The nice thing about these papers…they work for either gender as you’ll see.

Epic Day Gift Box & Belly Band - watermarked

Stamps: A Round Array (new in this catalog)
Ink: Chocolate Chip Marker, Daffodil Delight
Paper: Epic Day This and That Designer Series Paper (one full sheet).   Garden Green, Calypso Coral & Daffodil Delight Cardstocks.
Punches: 1-1/4″ Scallop Circle, 7/8″ Scallop Circle, Builder Bird
Other: Simply Scored Scoring Tool, Bone Folder, Crotchet Trim, dimensionals.
Epic Day Gift Box Montage
(Click the picture for a close up view)
Isn’t that a fun box?  If you’ve been hoarding papers it’s time to break them out.  You can create a pile of these (they fold and store flat) and have them ready for gifting times.  Super idea for recycling gift wrap materials like we all do these days…one box can be passed around the family for quite some time…they are really quite sturdy.   All you’ll need to add is a belly band.  Girl it up a little like I did with a strip of Stampin’ Up’s Crotchet Trim ribbon or add some  washi tape for a color accent for a guy.  Guys like tape right?
Next up in our new annual catalog parade of products:
A technique CASE from our recent Stampin’ Up Convention.   Didn’t get to go this time?   Or still haven’t joined Stampin Up as a demonstrator?  No worries.   Stampin’ Up posted the opening and closing sessions on YouTube.  You can see the 5 wonderful projects Pam Morgan demonstrated on stage and if you want them I’ve created a full set of directions for all 5.  You can download them here.
Epic Day & Label Love Artisan Birthday Card

Stamps: Label Love (new in this catalog)
Ink: Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral
Paper: Epic Day This and That Designer Series Paper.   Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral, Pool Party & Daffodil Delight Cardstocks.  Champagne & Silver Glimmer Papers.
Punches: 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle, Itty Bitty Punch Pack, Small Heart, 1/2″ Circle, Arisan Label.
Other: This & That Epic Day Stickers, Dimensionals.
This card has a built in shaker feature that’s fun and easy to create.  All it takes is a window sheet, a piece of cardstock or in my case Designer Series Paper and some of our wonderful Stampin’ Up Washi Tape to seal the two together.  The rest is punching, layering and decorating.   Did you see the sticker arrow I added at the top as well?   I’m hoping that will give the recipient the idea to shake the card.   The little sticker is from the This and That collection of stickers also new to the Annual Catalog.   And did you spot the new punch shape and matching stamp image?   That’s our new Artisan Label Punch and Label Love stamp set (both are available together in a discounted bundle).
To match the distressed look of the papers and tape I made a point not to fully ink all the stamps in my projects to produce a more distressed image.   Do you know how many try’s it takes to make something imperfect look good?  😀

I loved how well our Tea Lace Doilies took the ink too.  I snipped a scrap of doily and then inked it directly on the ink pad.  A tad messy since I used my fingers but very quick and easy.   One other detail you might not have noticed.  The birthday greeting and scallop backing is one of our new returning colors.  Bermuda Bay.  Don’t you love how it pops with the Calypso Coral without overpowering the Pool Party?

That’s it for this stop on the hop.  I hope you’ve enjoyed a peek at the New Catalog’s Epic Day Line of Products and a couple of fun ways to use them.

Time to move on to Terri’ A’s blog hop entry.   Terri is one of our Canadian Wacky Sister Demos and always has something wonderful to show and great stories to tell in her posts both on her blog and on our watercooler.   Scroll down to an earlier entry and meet her lovely canine companion.  Just click the Next button to get there.

As usual you can work the hop forwards or backwards.  Like wacky water we flow in all directions…rather like creativity don’t you think?

Hugs, love and blessings – Jean
