Frugal Friday: Looks at Sale-a-Bration

Hi All,

And yep, I know it’s actually Saturday and no longer Friday but maybe if we all wish really, really hard we can backstep in time…..boy don’t I wish – LoL!   Life got away from me for a bit while I tried to help some fellow demo’s figure out how the new demonstrator website’s blogging function works but here’s the intended Friday post in it’s entirety (And yes you can also read it on my Stampin’ Up! Demo website too 😀 ).

Today’s look at the frugal side of stamping takes in the Sale-a-Bration mini and the 4 stamp sets, DSP Pad and new Scallop Trim Border Punch.  I guess it’s about time I took a look at these cool new products.  After all Sale-a-Bration ends March 31st!

For those of you unfamiliar with Sale-a-Bration here’s how it works.  With each $50 increment of purchase you get to order one SAB item for free.  Spend $150 and you get not only Hostess Benefits (free hostess stamp set and $15 of free merchandise) but 3 free SAB items.  Host a party (or place your own order) of $300 and you can add an additional free SAB set to your hostess rewards (besides the 6 SAB sets you qualify for at that level of order).  If you want more details drop me a note or give me a call.

All SAB stamp sets are available in both Wood mount and Clear Mount so you might want to take the opportunity to try our latest Clear Mount Stamps while you can try them for free.  The only other item you’ll need to purchase to use these Clear Mounts is a block or two from our Occasions mini listing of clear mount acrylic blocks.  The C & D blocks will fit most if not all of the SAB stamp sets.

So basically, today, from a frugalista perspective, I’m showcasing free items that you can’t buy even if you want to and won’t be offered by Stampin’ Up again!   Well I suppose you could buy them over on an auction site but why would you want to when you can get them for free from me or another SU demo and save the dollars for other SU product 😀 !   Actually there is one exception to that.  The new scallop trim border punch will be available for sale in the new July catalog as will its matching corner punch currently available in the Occasions mini.  Stampin’ Up! decided to offer it as an SAB incentive item to showcase the new punch style they are now making available and to get those same punches into more hands.  After all if you love them as much as I do you’ll want to add more of them to your crafting arsenal.

So on with the review……

Note:  Abbreviations:  W = wood,  CL= Clear Mount

All SAB stamp sets with texts are also available in French and Spanish versions.

Vintage Labels – #118392 (W), #119122 (CL) pg. 4 SAB mini

French Version: Étiquettes d’epoque – #118669 (W), #119134 (CL)

Spanish Version: Etiquetas de la Cosecha – #118681 (W), #119146 (CL)

Lots of coordination with existing Stampin’ Up designs are possible with this set.  The Circular image overlays the Medallion stamp wonderfully as well as working with Circle Circus and more.  And of course the texts add a lot of variety as well whether used alone or coordinated with this sets images.

French Version – Bons moments – #118671 (W), #119137 (CL)

One of the most popular stamp sets from this promotion it covers a lot of ground.  Anniversary, Birthday, Thanks and General Occasion or anytime you want to share the happiness.  Whether you emboss it, stamp it plain, watercolor it or poppin’ pastel it you’ll find this set lends itself to a multiplicity of techniques and styles.

Good Neighbors – #118378 (W), #119116 (CL), pg. 6 SAB mini

A wonderful all image set that can be combined in many ways.  Somewhat similar to the Trendy Trees catalog set this set also offers two step houses and clouds.  You’ll want to get your Stamp a ma jig out if you order the wood block set but with the clear mounts if your hands are steady you might be able to get away with eyeballing it.    Think about creating your very own villages with this set.  Add a little snow and you’ll have a traditional village Christmas card come next December.  Create a set of cards for Arbor Day or a village for Fourth of July.   Perfect for Moving or new neighbor cards and gifts as well.  Lots of potential packed in this freebie set!

Whimsical Words – #118386 (W), #119119 (CL), pg. 8 SAB mini

Spanish Version – Palabras Caprichosas – #118679 (W), #119143 (CL)

French Version – Douces pensées – #118667 (W), #119131 (CL)

Here’s a set with a lot of potential.   Lighthearted and fun the words can be used as is or masked and combined in new ways.  Individual words can be used alone or in combination.  It’s all in how you ink the stamp.  Most of these also work with a variety of punches including Wide Oval, Curly Label, Circles, Heart and more.  They also show to advantage through many of the windows created with our Big Shot and the Movers and Shapers dies.  Whether you need a Birthday, new baby, Valentine, Anniversary card or just about any occasion there is a perfect text here in this set.

Welcome Neighbor Designer Series Pad – #118401, pg. 7 SAB mini

Even if houses and clouds aren’t your thing the opposite sides of each paper provide basic designs that work with any other stamp set.  And if you do love the houses, trees and clouds this DSP coordinates perfectly with the SAB set Good Neighbors.    My SU partner Cheryl has also found this paper pad makes a great photo background for project pictures.  You’ll be seeing it alot in the backgrounds of my blog posts.  Thanks Cheryl for spreading the joy!

Scallop Trim Border Punch – #118402, pg. 9 SAB mini

While a little tricky to use,  the delicate and vintage look of this intricate punch is well worth the effort.  And in addition to the usual borders when coordinated with the matching corner punch it’s possible to create gorgeous squares and rectangles that add a real punch to your project (pun intended 😀 ).  You can also use a bunched border piece as a stencil for another very cool look on a single layer card.

Here’s Stampin’ Up’s description of this new product:

Take joy in the dainty look this decorative punch will add to your artistry. It’s designed to coordinate with the styles of many of our Sale-A-Bration products, and it uses our new punch style. (Learn more about our new punch style on pages 10–11 in the Occasions Mini Catalog.)

*This punch will be available for sale in the 2010–2011 idea book & catalog.

Tip:  Overlay two layers of punched border just slightly offcenter from each other and you will have discovered a very cool new border look.  Works best if the two borders are different colors.

That’s the last of the official Sale-a-Bration incentive product.  Stampin’ Up! however didn’t leave it at that.  For the first time ever SU decided to widen our choices and get more catalog stamp sets into more hands than ever.  To see the over 70 choices you have you can check out this PDF created by my friend and fellow demo Linda Aarhus here or….

More options for free SAB stamp sets can be found on page 12 of the SAB mini.  All of these sets are current catalog sets under $15.95  many of which have previously been featured in Tightwad Tuesday and Frugal Friday posts.  To find those links check my Archives or tags in the sidebars.

Hope you enjoyed this quick peek at an annual Stampin’ Up! tradition.  And remember if you’ve been giving some thought to joining up as a demonstrator (whether for the discount or the business opportunities) Sale-a-Bration is the time to do so.  The two starter kits available (digital and the regular one) are discounted 15% plus you get to pick a free set from the current catalog at any price range.  Depending on the set you choose that could add another 25% to your savings on the usual starter kit price.  I’d love to add you to my team!  Ask me about the benefits – I’d love to chat!

Okay fellow frugalistas before March is over for another year lets get Sale-a-Brating!!!

Hugs and blessings – Jean
